Additional information:
This weekend - July 31-August 2 - is for teams at 8u, 10u, 12u. The 14u age group play their World Series the previous weekend July 24-26 and the older age groups 16u, 18u,18+ play their World Series - July 18-20. We split the weekends this year because the tournament has always sold out by January, and we always had to turn away dozens of younger teams. This will allow us to give more girls the season ending fun and experience of a World Series. Are you tired of wondering all summer if you'll earn a World Series bid or if you know the right people? And then if you get a bid, you have to pay an exorbitant fee to enter (or an exorbitant admission charge) for a minimum number of games and play 1 game a day for 3 days while those hotel bills mount up? Well, so was I. We use a format where each team will play a minimum of 5 games in 3 days. And you don't have to worry about qualifying as the only condition is that you finish in the top 6 of any tournament you were in this year or last year (ie - no rec. teams). This way everyone - players, coaches, parents, and fans - can make definite plans in advance. Also, no admission fee is charged to your fans..... (the city of Columbus does collect a $5 per day parking fee.) We will have the same amenities you'd expect at a World Series - 1. Opening ceremonies 2. Parade of teams 3. Skills competitions-- e.g. home run Derby, fastest pitcher, fastest touch them all, around the horn, outfield accuracy, etc. 4. Most Valuable Team awards 5. Team Spirit awards on YouTube 6. Gift swap 7. Pin trading 8. Programs. And to top it off we have an in-house fundraising opportunity for those teams who wish to take advantage of it to raise money for this extra special tournament. ********* New addition as of 12/15/14 ************** Fastpitch Showdowns is happy to host a 2015 MLB Pitch, Hit & Run Competition for the girls and the 14u All Sanctioned World Series in Columbus Ohio July 24 - 26, 2015. The competitions will be held on Saturday, July 25 from 12 noon to 5 PM. Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run is intended to encourage youth participation and emphasize the "FUN" element of baseball/softball. Since there is NO registration fee, everyone has the opportunity to participate. Since the competitions for 2015 will be over, these competitions possibly could qualify you for the 2016 events ( this has to be finalized by Major League Baseball which should do so by the 2015 event ). Further information and sign-up opportunities will be available on our website starting March 1, 2015. All this is available for $510 ($425 for 8u) for a 5 game guarantee. ******* NEW AS OF 1/25 ********* Fastpitch Showdowns is happy to announce that the Akron Racers professional softball team ( NPF) will be playing a regular-season game August 1 at Berliner Park in Columbus Ohio, immediately after the pool play ends for Saturday evening. They will be facing the Dallas Charge, the new team in the league this year. The teams entered into the tournament will be given a special discount on team tickets – details to follow in early March. This will make the tournament a bit more special for the girls, and will allow the girls to enjoy a professional softball game and make the World Series experience more memorable for them. Also the Akron Racers will be putting on an instructional camp for the girls in the tournament on Thursday, July 30 before the opening ceremonies. They should be fun for the girls. The camp will be taught by professional players. Again the cost and preliminary information about participating in the camp will be available around early March on our website – www.fastpitchshowdowns.com. Finally, we would like to announce that there will be All Star Games starting about 6 PM on Thursday evening after the opening ceremonies. Each coach will be able to nominate up to 4 players from his team to participate in the All Stars game. There will be a nominal charge to participate in the games, but we think it will be fun for the girls to get to know and play with girls from some of the other teams in the tournament. And these games will be coached by members of the Akron Racers. Again we hope that this event makes the All Sanctioned World Series event more memorable for the girls. Again details will be posted around early March. The preliminary information is on our website -- www.fastpitchshowdowns.com, -- but certainly if you have any specific questions, feel free to let us know. Last year we had 196 teams at the younger age groups, from 11 different states as well as Canada, at one complex, and we hope to do better this year. So we invite all teams to come and face different teams from different sanctioning bodies, and have the girls enjoy a fun end of the season tournament.
