Additional information:
We consider the Buckeye Showdown RecruitFest the best college recruiting tournament in the Midwest. We have 31 fields in one complex ( so the coaches don't have to run from complex to complex - thus insuring the college coaches can be at your field). It is the largest complex in the United States and last year 220 teams ( from 13 different states and Canada ) enjoyed the exposure to well over 120 college coaches who had registered to be in Columbus that weekend. Some of the best teams in the Midwest (and beyond) will be in Columbus that weekend, and that will bring in the maximum # of college coaches. And we have tried to keep the cost of the tournament reasonable ($695) - it is not the outlandish entry fee that some recruiting tournaments charge. We want every team to be able to take advantage of a true recruiting tournament. If you are not a current member of ASA you can join on-site for $35 - it takes about 3 minutes, and is good the rest of the summer. Also we will host a PLAYER DEVELOPMENT AND RECRUITING CLINIC on the Thursday before the tournament taught entirely by college coaches. Last year we had over 45 college coaches instructing at the clinic..............................................................After the camp during the day on Thursday, on Thursday night there will be All-Star games. The All-Star games consist of up to 4 of the best players from each team nominated by their coaches, so the caliber of play is very good and the caliber of recruiting is also very good. The All-Star games will be coached by college coaches/players if possible, which makes it very enjoyable for the girls. And the girls really enjoy meeting and playing softball with girls of similar interests from different teams and different states. Many softball friendships are formed -- and some of the girls even might end up playing for the same college ! .....................................................Then starting Friday morning, games start and we use the same tournament format that was used by the NFCA in their Top Recruit tournaments in Florida and Texas. This format was designed by college coaches for college coaches so that they could get the best look in the best situation for recruiting players. First of all, before each pool play game there will be a skills demonstration by each team (basically infield/outfield practice). Each team will play 3 pool games, and each pool game is important because if you don't win your pool, you will not be eligible to win the entire tournament. We do this because the college coaches requested that they really would only like to see the players compete in games that are meaningful. After pool play you will be seated against the like finishers from the other pools. This is because again, the college coaches want to see the players perform against like competition. At the completion of pool play all teams will then be seeded and placed into brackets. For each age group there will be 4 divisions - Gold (1st Place in Pool), Silver (2nd Place in Pool), Bronze (3rd Place in Pool), and Copper (4th Place in Pool). The teams will then play two games within their respective brackets to determine an overall winner of each super pool. Each super pool will consist of 4 teams who had the same finish in their respective pool. If you lose your first bracket game you will play one more consolation game. If you win your first bracket game you will play until you lose. The winners of each Super Pool Division will move on to determine the winner of that Super Pool Division. The Super Pool Divisions will not play each other. If you do not win your pool, you cannot be the winner of the overall tournament, but you still may be able to win your division. The winner and finalist in each of the division super pool play-off brackets (Gold, Silver, Bronze and Copper) will receive medals. The Gold Division will have an award presentation immediately following their Championship game. Each pool game will be 90 minutes long as we feel it gives the girls a longer chance for exposure and a better chance to enjoy a full game................................................... There are several college coach amenities at the tournament to make it better for the college coaches. Each field will have a separate tent, table, and chairs behind the backstop for the exclusive use of college coaches. Also each dugout will have plastic brochure holders for your team/individual profile sheets ( there will also be tables set up at headquarters for this information). Each college coach will also have electronic access, as well as paper access, to the player profile book. And each player in the tournament will be required to wear a recruiting bib - which will be furnished to her. We will also have a golf cart shuttle service available for all the college coaches to go between fields. And we will pay extra so that all fields will have temporary homerun fences ( unless there are league games that evening), as again this is what the college coaches requested so that they could see the girls perform in a real college like atmosphere..................................................................................... So again if your primary purpose for attending the tournament is to win the tournament, then this tournament might not be for you ( although you certainly can win it). Because in order to attend the tournament your team will be required to fill out the player profile sheets to get the college coaches the proper information they need in a format they can use. And your players will also be requested to contact the college coaches of the colleges they are interested in and let them know they will be at the tournament. We can guarantee that there will be college coaches at the tournament, but with 31 fields they probably won't be at your game UNLESS YOUR PLAYERS HAVE CONTACTED THEM. But if your primary purpose for attending the tournament is to get the best college exposure of any tournament this side of the Sparkler/Fireworks in Colorado, then this is the tournament you want to attend in 2018, no matter what state you are from. So we feel the combination of the recruiting camp, 31 fields in one complex with over 2000 recruitable players, All-Star games, a tournament format set up for recruiting by college coaches, the skills demonstrations, and a sincere desire by the participating teams to let the college coaches from the colleges they are interested in know what is happening, the stage is set that will lead to your best recruiting experience in 2018.
